Soul Midwives are non-denominational multi-faith (or no faith) practitioners who guide and support those going through the dying process. At the simplest level Soul Midwives can sit and hold hands, keeping someone company in the long dark hours which so often lead to the end of life. No one should die alone. I aim to learn about the dying process and leverage my existing skills to serve.
I recently joined the Daisy chain with this Scotland-wide Charity Pushing up the Daisies. We believe that spending time with someone in the days after they have died eases grief in the longer term, and we want to support others in their local community to experience this if they wish. We can provide information about options, legalities and practicalities in the days after death.
Alongside my voluntary work as a Mental Health Facilitator with Andy's Man Club, I volunteer as a Neighbourhood Companion with St. Columbas Hospice in Edinburgh where I am matched with someone living with an end-of-life diagnosis and offer my time, kindness and company, especially to those who may be feeling lonely or socially isolated.
